The past decade has seen the asccent of RM (or “grower”) Champagnes from relative obscurity to greatly sought after. They are philosophically the opposite of the wines made by the famous big houses - coming from individual, family-owned vineyards and made on a much smaller scale. RM stands for the French phrase "Récoltant Manipulant" - quite literally "Harvester Handler" or "Grower Maker". The farmer is making the wine.
Everett, our sparkling wine buyer, strives to keep a wide variety of these small, famer-as-producer Champagnes in stock. Please don't hesitate to stop in, phone, or drop us a line if there is something you see of interest, something you'd like us to find, or if you'd just like to learn more about these small, specialist producers. He'd be more than happy to talk about them for as long as you are willing to listen! |
