Domaine de Montille Description
The Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "En Remilly" benefits from a privileged location as the vineyards are located on south facing slopes behind the Grand Cru "Le Montrachet", at the exit of the valley. Soils here are thin and rocky and vines are on average 70 years-old. The wine comes from a massale selection of the 1.7 hectares parcel. It is the best 1er Cru of Saint-Aubin along with the "Murgers des dents de chien". The name "Remilly" comes from the name of a Roman owner called Romilius. The resulting wine is the result of a balance between the powerful, generous character of the due south exposure and this mineral, tense reserve of the shallow, stony soil.
Vinous: 90-92 Points
The 2021 Saint-Aubin En Remilly ler Cru has a fragrant, floral nose with pressed white flowers that complement the linden and pear scents. The palate is well-balanced, elegant and pure with a fine thread of acidity towards the ginger-tinged finish. This is very commendable given the challenges of the season. Seven barrels were produced instead of forty-eight.
Burghound: 88-91 Points
An admirably discreet application of wood sets off hints of citrus, pear and soft mineral reduction nuances. The attractively textured medium weight flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel and good volume, all wrapped in a delicious, balanced and dry if only moderately complex and slightly short finish, though that may well change before it's bottled.
