Domaine Simon Colin Description
This is an exciting new domaine that owes its origins to Simon's grandfather Michel Colin (of Domaine Colin-Deléger), who split his domaine in two stages between his sons Philippe and Bruno. Simon's father Philippe has initiated the same approach and has gifted 9.30 ha of his domaine to Simon. Simon has had a varied apprenticeship as he worked with his father from 2014 to 2017 and then in South Africa, Adelsheim in Oregon and then 4 years with Domaine Sauzet. He began a small négociant operation while he was at Sauzet and finally came to an agreement with his father to buy the building and equipment to begin on his own account with his father's vineyards. Colin is in the process of applying for organic viticulture certification.
Vinous: 90 Points
The 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay comes from two parcels of vines around the winery in Chassagne. Scents of beeswax and green apples on the nose have a slight Germanic flair. The palate is well-balanced with satisfying depth and a rounded texture, but acidity keeps this fresh and tensile on the finish. Very fine.
Burghound: 87 Points
Here too there is a discreet though not invisible dollop of oak framing the ripe and attractively fresh aromas of apple, pear and lemon rind. There is a bit more volume to the delicious and well-detailed flavors that also culminate in a clean and dry finale where a touch of youthful austerity eventually emerges. This is slightly more serious and could repay 2 to 3 years of keeping if desired. Worth considering.
