Poggio Scalette Description
Poggio Scalette takes its name from the landscape, which is characterized by dry, stone walls supporting terraces on which the vineyards and olive groves are planted. From a distance the impression is of a series of stairs climbing the slopes of Greve.
The vines, more than 90 years old, are a rare example of the original clone of the famous Sangiovese di Lamole variety in the Chianti Classico area. Sangiovese di Lamole is a half step in weight and intensity between the Sangiovese of Chianti and the Sangiovese Grosso of Brunello di Montlcino.
Tasting Note: Bright ruby red in color, a lively bouquet of red fruits and blackberries complement undertones of ripe cherries and pomegranate seeds. On the palate, the wine is fresh and fruit-forward with silky tannins that evolve throughout the finish.
This wine is without wood exposure so that the expression of Sangiovese is pure and shining with Tuscan charm.
Wine Pairing: A very food-friendly wine that can be paired with a number of dishes including rosemary roasted lamb, tomato based sauces, and hearty chicken stews.
Traditional parings would be dishes like Bistecca Fiorentina or Wild Boar Chops with Cannellini Beans and Kale

The 2020 Chianti Classico is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Soft contours wrap around succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, mocha, spice and new leather. This forward, open-knit Chianti Classico is not terribly complex, but it sure is delicious.
