Lagarde is pleased to introduce Primeras Vinas a collection of two red wines, each of which is the result of the work and time invested in a special vineyard, their age and treatment. Their production takes between 12 and 14 months in French oak barrels, with at least 12 months of stowage in a controlled environment, resulting in great potential that can be enjoyed for 10-15 years. Only 4,000-15,000 bottles are produced annually.

Much wilder than the wine from Luján de Cuyo, the 2018 Primeras Viñas Malbec Gualtallary is inevitably produced with much younger vines (planted in 2007) but shows the electric and chalky character from the best reds from the high-altitude place in the Valle de Uco. The wine is tightly wound, austere and with subdued minerality, and the notes of thyme and rockrose slowly unfurl as the wine sits in the glass. It's varietal, characterful and with lots of inner power and energy.
Vinous: 92 Points
A Malbec from Gualtallary, cold-macerated before aging in French foudres for 18 months. Intense purple in color. Notes of cherry and herb dominate with a surprisingly single-minded intensity. Juicy, flowing and light on the palate, with a hint of chalk that lends a fine texture along with a salty touch. The oak contributes to the medium body. A high-altitude, flavorful wine.
