Enclos Tourmaline Description
Enclos Tourmaline is located on the highest point of the famous plateau of the smallest appellation of Bordeaux: Pomerol. The property was acquired by Peter Kwok and his son Howard in 2012. Enclos Tourmaline is produced in small quantities only during great vintages. The first vintage produced less than 1,000 bottles, and in 2013 no wines were made at all.
Following the image of the Tourmaline, a multi-colour precious gemstone, our estate echos the multiplicity and excellence of the terroir of Pomerol. This wine is made from three exceptional parcels. Each has a different but complementary type of terroir, and berries from these parcels form an exceptional cuvee.
Wine Advocate: 91-93 Points
Production of the 2021 Enclos Tourmaline is down by around two-thirds this year, but the wine shows potential, exhibiting aromas of plums, cherries, licorice and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied and fleshy palate with powdery structuring tannins and a lively spine of acidity. From vines in the Clinet sector, this is more serious than the charming, demonstrative La Patache. Tasted twice.
Vinous: 90-92 Points
The 2021 Enclos Tourmaline is pure Merlot cropped at 25.5hL/ha and presents a perfumed bouquet of dark cherries, blueberry and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity and good depth and density. There is just a touch of rusticity on the finish, but it should meld together during barrel maturation in 100% new oak.
