Domaine des Lambrays Description
"Les Loups" is not a single 1er cru but a blend from three parcels totalling 0.70 ha total: 1er "La Riotte", 1er "Clos Sorbé" and 1er "Le Village" plus a small proportion of young vines Clos des Lambrays; 50% whole cluster. These 1er cru all sit below Grand Cru vineyards
Vines range in age from 30-60yrs of age.
Tasting Note: More power and richness in a slightly riper style, sappy mouthfeel in a really lovely way, loads of spice in the mid to back palate, forward tannins with sappy finish. Drink now with air or hold 15+yrs (Antonio, Burgundy Buyer for Houston Wine Merchant)
Vinous: 91-93 Points
The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Loups ler Cru contains half Premier Crus (La Riotte and Clos Sorbé) and the other half from younger vines in Clos des Lambrays planted in 2000 that is likely to enter the Grant Vin next year. Including 50% whole bunches, it has an attractive dark berry fruit and subtle briny scents on the nose. Good intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit with a very precise finish enhanced by the stem addition. This is a much more serious wine than the Village Cru.
Wine Advocate: 90-92 Points
Aromas of rose petals, sweet red berries, cinnamon and clove introduce the 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Loups, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's supple and perfumed, structured around powdery tannins and concluding with a saline finish.
Burghound: 90-92 Points
An overtly floral-suffused nose speaks of red cherry, raspberry and a hint of herbal tea. The supple, caressing and succulent medium-bodied flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension on the lightly stony, focused and lingering finale.
