Domaine Simon Colin Description
This is an exciting new domaine that owes its origins to Simon's grandfather Michel Colin (of Domaine Colin-Deléger), who split his domaine in two stages between his sons Philippe and Bruno. Simon's father Philippe has initiated the same approach and has gifted 9.30 ha of his domaine to Simon. Simon has had a varied apprenticeship as he worked with his father from 2014 to 2017 and then in South Africa, Adelsheim in Oregon and then 4 years with Domaine Sauzet. He began a small négociant operation while he was at Sauzet and finally came to an agreement with his father to buy the building and equipment to begin on his own account with his father's vineyards. Colin is in the process of applying for organic viticulture certification.
Vinous: 89 Points
The 2022 Bourgogne Aligoté was bottled for the matter of space. This has a lively, effervescent bouquet with lime flowers, orange zest and peach. The palate is medium-bodied with sharp acidity, a more malic style of Aligoté, the 20% new oak just lending a slight creaminess on the finish. Delicious.
Burghound: 87 Points
A discreet application of wood can be found on the spiced citrus and green apple-scented nose. The racy, precise and lightly stony flavors possess a bracing, but not drying, acidity that adds to the refreshing quality of the finish. This isn't especially complex but for sheer 'gulpability', this fits the bill and thus would make a good choice for picnics and an uncomplicated everyday sipper.
