Domaine Pierrick Bouley Description
One of the new talents of the Côte de Beaune, Pierrick Bouley is a name you're going to hear a lot more about in the years to come. Of course, Bouley hasn't courted the media spotlight as assiduously as some of his contemporaries; instead, he's been hard at work in the vineyards. He presides over some 9.6 hectares, divided into more than 40 parcels.
Wine Advocate: 89+ Points
The 2020 Volnay Village mingles aromas of dark berries and spices with hints of toasty oak in an inviting bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, lively and rather tightly wound, it has powdery tannins that assert themselves on the chalky finish.
Vinous: 87-89 Points
The 2020 Volnay Village is the largest production of the estate from their 2.5-hectares of vines spread over a dozen parcels. It has a ripe blueberry and red cherry-scented bouquet that is quite intense. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, quite candied entry, fine acidity, quite primal and certainly very juicy. It maybe just needs a little more backbone and grip on the finish.
Burghound: 87 Points
This is slightly riper still yet still agreeably fresh with its blend of plum, dark pinot fruit and discreet spice wisps. There is fine intensity and even better detail on the more finely textured flavors that contrast somewhat with the youthfully austere finish where a touch of greenish tannins imparts a slight tanginess. While the description suggests a problem, this seems to work acceptably well anyway.
