Domaine Pierrick Bouley Description
One of the new talents of the Côte de Beaune, Pierrick Bouley is a name you're going to hear a lot more about in the years to come. Of course, Bouley hasn't courted the media spotlight as assiduously as some of his contemporaries; instead, he's been hard at work in the vineyards. He presides over some 9.6 hectares, divided into more than 40 parcels.
Burghound: 92 Points
This is also brooding but fresh with a layered nose of fresh red and dark pinot fruit cut with pretty spice and floral whiffs. There is both good vibrancy and delineation to the attractively textured mineral-suffused flavors that culminate in a linear, youthfully austere and chalky finish. At least some patience will be necessary as this is quite tightly wound.
Vinous: 91-93 Points
The 2020 Volnay Champans ler Cru comes from a single parcel. This has an overtly floral bouquet with wilted rose petal and iris flower permeating the vivacious red fruit, perhaps one of the aromatics from Bouley that exhibit the most clarity. The palate is very well balanced, intense rather than powerful with a silver bead of acidity, very spicy towards the finish where there is a touch of reduction, touches of pain d'épices on the finish. This has almost 15" alcohol but it does seem to carry it well.
Wine Advocate: 90 Points
The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Champans reveals scents of smoky berry fruit and plums mingled with loamy soil and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and structured, with rich, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish, this will need a bit of time to shed its austerity.
