Domaine J. A. Ferret Description
The vineyard has been renewed three times from 1974 to 1999. The second time was in 1989, 200 years anniversary of the French revolution.
Tasting Note: After a light aeration, stand out flowers aromas but also lemon and lemon balm notes. We note a nice lengthening and a delicate and sappy finish. Notes of jasmine, verbena and lime, and a mouthwatering palate with saline minerality, are lent structure by a long, fresh finish.
Wine Paring: Thanks to its richness and its great balance, 'Les Ménétrières' deserves to be paired with the most refined dishes, such as sole Meunière, a foie gras terrine, grilled lobster, sea bass, chicken with porcini mushrooms and also with washed rind cheeses like Vacherin Mont d'Or, creamy St Marcellins or tangy goat's cheeses like a Sainte-Maure.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Ménétrières ler Cru has a beautiful, expressive bouquet with yellow fruit, white linen and subtle limestone scents, showing fine delineation and beautifully integrated oak (as usual). The palate is well balanced with more weight than Ferret's other cuvées, beautifully balanced with perfectly judged acidity. It fans out on the finish with absolute confidence and should drink well for several years. This wine is a victory in a challenging growing season, though just four barrels were made in this year. Grab what you can.
Burghound: 93 Points
A trace of reduction lurks in the background of the otherwise ripe yet cool aromas of poached pear, apple, acacia blossom and soft wood. The lavishly rich, even opulent, middleweight plus flavors possess both a highly beguiling texture and impressive power on the lemony, youthfully austere and balanced finale. This is also very powerful, in fact I would go so far as to describe it as a Bâtard in all but name.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
Aromas of pear, mint, white peach, nutmeg and flowers introduce the 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Hors-Classe Les Ménétrières, a medium to full-bodied, chalky and structured wine that exhibits solid depth despite the hail that afflicted this sector, concluding with a saline, chalky finish.
