Descendientes de José Palacios Description
The area of Bierzo they are focused on is a small area around the village of Corullon near the highest elevation of the appellation and with the oldest most complex soils. Beyond managing the entire biodynamic farm, Ricardo also hosts classes for the residents on baking bread, making cheeses, and other skills from the region that are slowly being lost by the younger generations. Ricardo led the charge on changes to the DO of Bierzo rules getting further designations approved, village designations allowed, and many other things that will benefit the quality and communication to consumers.
Villa de Corullón is built from a dizzying array of the village’s top sites, including not only Monçerbal and Las Lamas, but also San Martín and Fontelas, both of which were once notable single-vineyard bottlings. The blend also includes La Faraona’s neighbor, Ferro, along with Vasnada, María Cota, and Bruxa, each representing a different elevation, exposure, and soil. As such, Villa de Corullón is the ultimate expression of the village’s terroir. Its combination of generosity and precision makes a case not only for Corullón’s special status, but also the superiority of Álvaro’s and Ricardo’s winemaking.

The vino de villa village red 2021 Corullón is extremely floral and elegant, clean, precise, fresh and very complete and harmonious, with a super elegant mouthfeel and a very long finish. 19,716 bottles and some smaller and larger formats produced. It was bottled in January 2022. This is super balanced and is aging slowly, with potential to age much more.
