On the nose, this has clean, precise notes of black currant, peppery spice, and new leather. Black currant, dark chocolate, malt, and a brief splurge of pepper on the initial sip, but the best is yet to come. The final phase is like being famished and ravenously biting into a milk chocolate fondant bar, with deep layers of fruit underneath the chocolate. An utterly moreish and delicious Brackla. This was finished for a year in a First Fill Tawny Port Quarter Cask. The distillery's style is already rich and opulent whisky, adding this to a Tawny Port Quarter Cask adds fruitiness to the underlying spice.
Due to its royal warrant and limited production, Royal Brackla whiskies are highly regarded and sought after by whisky enthusiasts and collectors. They are often considered a hidden gem among single malt Scotch whiskies, offering a unique taste experience with a touch of royal heritage. In 1835, King William IV granted the distillery the right to use the "Royal" prefix in its name, making it Royal Brackla. Located in the Highlands of Scotland, the distillery is close to the Cawdor Castle. The castle has strong connections to Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" and is often associated with royalty and Scottish history.
