2023 Bordeaux Futures Offer #1
It's That Time Again

This year is starting out very hot with a grand total of 47 wines on this first offer. I also have some very good news; prices are down substantially this year. Even though prices are down, it is, by all accounts, a strong vintage. I’ve read a lot about the pricing situation, and the reason for the decline appears to boil down to a combination of factors, including stocks on hand at the negociants, interest rates, and the fact that it is an abundant vintage. It’s a great year to take advantage of a stable of strong showings.

The biggest name today is without a doubt Lafite, and it’s a strong offer at $580.63. That’s around a 34% dip from last year. Press is solid as well, with The Wine Advocate giving the following note:
The finest of the first growths this year appears to be the 2023 Lafite Rothschild, a terrific effort that unwinds in the glass with deep and incipiently complex aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, lilac and violets mingled with hints of cigar wrapper and mint. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's vibrant and refined, with a deep core of fruit, plenty of sweet structuring tannin and a compelling marriage between energy and plenitude. It's a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot that reminds me of 2019's tannins combined with 2016's unimpeachable classicism. 97-99

There are lots of other great wines in this offer, and some of them are great values. In particular, I’d point you to Haut Marbuzet in Saint Estephe, which has been on a bit of a run lately, and is offered at $43.96. From The Wine Advocate:

Always one of the Médoc's most sensual wines, the 2023 Haut-Marbuzet wafts from the glass with aromas of dark berries, cassis and cherries mingled with cigar wrapper in violets, revealing little trace of its maturation in new barrels. Medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, it's deep and seamless, with an enveloping core of juicy, fleshy fruit framed by sweet, melting tannin. It's a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. 92-94

It looks like it’s going to be a great campaign this year. As always, I recommend that you get your orders in quickly to ensure that you can get what you want.
