Offers for the 2023 Vintage Campaign have begun! 2023 Bordeaux Futures Offer #2 The torrid pace of the campaign continues. This offer is most notable for the three Baron de Philippe de Rothschild Chateaux: Clerc Milon, d'Armailhac, and Mouton Rothschild. This includes five wines: the grand vin from all of the chateaux and the second wines from Mouton and Clerc Milon.
Mouton is the star here, of course, and it gets great press, but follows the trend of lower prices, coming in at $477.29. From Vinous: The 2023 Mouton Rothschild is shaping up to be one of the best wines of the vintage on the Left Bank. Its balance of intense, super-concentrated fruit and equally imposing structure is spellbinding. Dark red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, pencil shavings and dried herbs gain intensity in the glass. I especially admire its vertical build and overall energy. This is an exciting young Mouton endowed with palpable dynamic energy. It's a superb effort from the team led by Technical Director Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy. - By Antonio Galloni on April 2024. 96-99
The rest of the Mouton wines are also having a strong year. All scores from Vinous: D'Armailhac - 91-93, $51.25 Clerc Milon - 92-94, $82.08 Le Petit Mouton - 93-95, $201.67 Pastourelle De Clerc Milon - 85-87, $33.13
There are also lots of other fun things in this offer. Sauternes and Barsac had a tremendous vintage, and we are looking at some truly stellar wines there. Today we have two wines from Coutet The main wine looks to be great (94-96, $44.79), but I'm personally intrigued by the dry white that they make, Opalie de Coutet. Many Sauternes and Barsac producers are leaning into dry wines due to market conditions, and they are really producing some compelling wines. This example is especially fine at $38.54. From Vinous: Opalie offers one of the best aromatic profiles amongst almost two dozen dry Sauternes tasted this vintage. There's a complex array of orange pith, wet stone and apple blossom on the nose that is beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced with a tangy entry, possessing judicious touches of orange rind and bitter lemon and a pithier finish than its peers. Excellent. - By Neal Martin on April 2024 91-93
