Offers for the 2022 Vintage Campaign have begun! 2022 Bordeaux Futures Offer #8
We've had some quality wines in the last few offerings, but today we are back with some of the true royalty, including four bottlings from two wineries. Ausone (WA 94-96+, $860.25) and its second wine, Chapelle d'Ausone (WA 91-93+, $225.75) are here, as are Palmer (WA 95-97, $452.60) and its (don't let the chateau hear you call it a second wine), Alto Ego de Palmer (WA 91-93, $105.80). If you know these wines, then you know what to do, so I'm going to talk about a smaller producer who is making great strides.
Haut Marbuzet ($53.25) has been on a bit of a roll lately, with a plusher and more expressive style than many of it's brethren in Saint Estephe. Partially this is due to its higher portion of Merlot than most of its neighbors, which is even greater this year, but also from conscious decisions in the winery. While it was not ranked in the 1855 classification, any current re-ordering would certainly make is a cru classe property. While it is a wine that certainly will enjoy a long life, it is a bottle that can be enjoyed on the younger side as well. From the Wine Advocate: A blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Haut-Marbuzet is a beautiful wine in the making, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet wild berries, cassis, mint and pencil lead, intermingled with hints of licorice. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple thanks to its ripe and velvety tannins, this is a deep, concentrated and vibrant Saint-Estèphe that is likely to number among the more attractive propositions of the en primeur campaign.
