Offers for the 2022 Vintage Campaign have begun! 2022 Bordeaux Futures Offer #7
We've got another solid offer today, with lots of fun items. While the majority are on the right bank (and there are some particularly strong wines there, including Canon La Gaffeliere, 94-96 RP; $104.11) don't skip the left bank entirely. Clerc Milon, 93-95 RP; $104.10 and Haut Batailley, 91-93+ RP; $71.64 from Pauillac both have strong outings this year, but I want to look at Talbot from St. Julien today. Talbot is a fourth growth, and the name comes from the renowned British military leader Sir John Talbot, who owned the property in the 15th century. It went through several owners over the years, and was purchased by the Cordier Family, who still own and run the estate, in 1918. Long a fixture of wine lists for its quality and affordable price, like any long lasting chateau, it has had good and bad periods, but it definitely seems on the upswing. This vintage looks to be a great one. Per Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2022 Talbot is especially impressive, and if it fulfills all its promise, it is likely to emerge as this large Saint-Julien property's most exciting wine since the 1980s. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries, blackberries and cassis mingled with hints of violets and pencil lead, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with a layered core of fruit, rich structuring tannins and a long, lively finish. It's a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot that's being matured in 60% new oak. 93-95, $78.85
